Hi, all—

Avid and happy ground cloth user here looking to (potentially) get into the bivvy lifestyle on the CDT. What I've noticed, however, is that folks often use a ground cloth underneath a bivvy with a DCF floor. Can anybody explain this to me, outside of preventing the inevitable wear & tear? I use a HMG DCF ground cloth, but doubling up on the DCF just feels like wasted ounces. I'd want one or the other, not both.

Also, general opinions on the bivvy (looking at Borah's Dimma style) for the CDT, versus plain cowboy camping with a UM2 as weather protection? I love to cowboy camp, but mosquitos love when I do it, too. How bad was the bug pressure?
